AppArt
AppArt’s Sculpture Trail at Prior’s Field School opens on Monday 16th March for local Schools to visit.
For Grayswood couple Evelyn and Gwyn Phillips this year will be their 25th year of curating and arranging art exhibitions and sculpture trails in Surrey. They have created a Sculpture Trail of 170 plus works that will intrigue, inspire and amuse local school children that visit.
There will be a wide range of materials and subjects for the sculptures. Animals and birds will be prominent and Alison Catchlove’s metal sculptures of birds will catch the eye, especially her Eagle-Eyed Owl. Victoria Hunt’s Knife and Fork Hawk will intrigue and demonstrate how everyday objects can be made into works of art.
Gilbert Whyman specialises in using scrap metal items to create stunning sculptures such as Samurai II that will tower over the youngsters when they visit.
Classical themes will be present with several sculptures by Surrey artist Nicola Godden on show. Icarus X and the Mask of Achilles are sure to be spotted as they are large and striking works.
Glass and wood sculptures will be present. The handblown glass work of Adam Aaronson is colourful and has an abstract feel. Abstract emotions and Cloud display glass work at its finest in terms of technique and detail. Friedel Buecking carves tall and impressive sculptures using the natural contours of the wood as a guide. Plant life in Yew is a good example of his work.
AppArt has prepared worksheets for the visiting children to complete and it will be interesting to see which of the sculptures are their favourites and the sketches that they create.
The Sculpture Trail is not open to the public until the 4th April and has been specially set up early for visiting schools and the pupils of Prior’s Field School. ... See more
